Player Stats

    Game Reference Manual

Been a while since you've played the prologue? This is where you go to read up on the game mechanics.

    Stats

At the start of the prologue you were given three stat points to spend on three stats of your choice, and an additional point at the start of every chapter.

Deception is your ability to lie and cheat. This opens up additional options to you.

Fortitude is your ability to fight and muscle your way out of things. This opens up additional options to you.

Perception is your ability to perceive your environment and figure out certain things. While this opens up some additional options, this stat also gives you additional information that can help you in how to proceed.

    Game Interface

The game interface consists of three things:

    The Portrait

This is a graphical representation of the character that you are speaking with or the obstacle that you must overcome.

    The Text Response

This describes what's going on, what the character you are talking to is saying and other information about the scene before you.

Text in white is something that a character is saying.

Text in yellow is a description of the scene playing out before you.

Text in blue is a description you pick up on for clearing a perception check, giving you hints as to how to proceed in the game.

    Response Options

A list of possible things you can say or do. Phrases are in quotations and actions are not.

Responses in red are deliberate lies and misdirection that require a successful deception check to clear.

Responses in green require you to exhort physical force in the game and require a successful fortitude check to clear.

Responses in blue come up as a result of a cleared perception check, representing something that you noticed about the character you're speaking with or a hole in their logic.

With the noteworthy exception of the options made available by perception checks you won't know by looking whether or not you can clear the check, though if you fail the check you shouldn't worry too much. If you fail the perception check for a blue option that option will simply not show up on the list of possible options.
